Carin Bam
Carin Bam started playing the oboe at the age of thirteen at the Hugo LambrechtsMusic Centre in Cape Town. She completed her studies in 2000 at the Universit of Stellenbosch, under the tutelage of Sergei Burkodov. She returned to the Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre in 2001 as an oboe and bassoon teacher. Her students have excelled in various Board exams, Eisteddfodau and competitions, most recently the Sanlam, Pieter Kooij and Artscape Music Competitions. She is currently the Head of Department: Woodwinds at the Centre.
She has been an active ad hoc orchestral member playing with several professional orchestras, including Cape Philharmonic Orchestra, Kwa-Zulu Natal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Namibian National Symphony Orchestra. Carin is also regular player with many ad hoc orchestras throughout South Africa. In 2010 she played in the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra’s special peace concert to commemorate the dropping of the atomic bomb on Nagasaki exactly 65 years ago. The concert was broadcast live to Japan.
As an avid chamber musician, Carin performs regularly with guitarist Uliano Marchio at venues that include Artscape and the Baxter Concert Hall.
Carin has been invited to perform as a soloist with Winelands Orchestra, Hugo Lambrechts Symphony Orchestra and Musicanti Orchestra. In 2010 Carin completed her UNISA Licentiate in Music Performance and was placed on the Roll of Honour.
